Google Assistant no longer needs 'hey' and 'OK' for your every query
Internet
search
giant Google is rolling out the Continued Conversation feature to its Artificial Intelligence-based voice assistant,
called Google Assistant.
This will be functional starting today on Google Home, Google Home Mini
and Google Home Max, as
per Google's
blogpost.
Currently, this feature is being rolled out only in the US, but is expected to reach other countries soon
as well.
The
Continued Conversation
feature was first announced at the time of Google's
annual developers' conference, Google I/O 2018.
Readers must note that enabling Continued
Conversation feature would mean that your device's microphone will
reopen after every response to listen for follow-up questions.
This
new feature allows you to talk to Google
Assistant
by eliminating the need to say “Hey
Google” before
each follow-up question. This means that users can now have a more natural
back-and-forth conversation with the Assistant.
"You’ll
still need to activate your
Assistant devices with “Ok Google,” “Hey Google,”
or with a physical trigger,
but with this new optional setting turned on, the Assistant will stay active
for long enough to respond to follow up questions so you don't have to say “Hey Google” as
often," explains
Google.
In
order to end the conversation,
users will have to say, “thank you” or
“stop”.The conversation
also automatically
ends if it detects that the user
is not talking to it anymore.
How
to enable Continued Conversation in Google Assistant app
To
enable this new feature, go Google
Assistant app
by going to Settings >
Preferences >
Continued Conversation and
hitting the toggle.
At the same Google I/O 2018 conference, the company officially introduced its Android P mobile operating system. The next version of Android OS brings into focus one of the core strengths of Google: AI and machine learning. The search giant brings features like Adaptive Battery, Adaptive Brightness, App Actions, Slices and much more on board.
